Well, today was a big day for Hexy. It was his first trip outside to meet new people. Hexy came into work with me to meet some of my friends and colleagues, and by all accounts made a big impression!
I'm quite lucky that my work is involved in a lot of education outreach work. We're an engineering business and in the UK (along with the US as I'm aware), there's a big push to encourage young people to study Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects.
I'd planned to introduce Hexy to the technical lead for the Rampaging Chariots event that will be coming back to where I work in June. Hopefully planning to do some interesting demonstrations during the lunch break. This event will cover about 2 hours of Hexy activity and present Science and Engineering to around 60 14-16 year old students.
A chance discussion with someone else put me in touch with our site's lead contact for our attendance at The Big Bang Fair, and it now seems that Hexy will be doing demos for 8+ hours a day for 4 days. It's a big challenge, and given that the event's in March, quite a tight timescale for getting some interesting demonstrations ready with Hexy.
This is going to be a big challenge, Hexy's going to be the centre of attention, got to hope that he's going to be ready in time!
